Hi everyone I have what I beleive to be 1 male and 1 female peppered cory cat fish and a spare 25 litre aquarium with no lights. I would love to breed these two fish and was wandering what my tank would need in it substrate wise and decor. I will be able to move the parents from the eggs as i have a larger 96l tank for them to be placed back in any information would be much appreciated thanks.

2 males to 1 female is best for corys.
A thin layer of sand & some moss for them to hide in, sometimes they lay their eggs in the moss but usually lay on the glass.
You need to condition them with meaty foods such as bloodworm, tubifex, daphnia etc, live if you can get it but frozen is just as good.
Once you see the female filled with eggs do cool water changes dropping the temp a few degrees, low barometric pressure sets them off too, so this stormy weather is a good time to try.
Good luck :)

thanks that has been helpful how long would the fry take before they could be placed in my main aquarium and will breeding harm my adult corries at all.

cories are schooling fish and should be kept in 6+ numbers.
with breeding, if you have what is listed above.. and when the eggs are laid and fertilized you can removed all the adults because they'll eat the eggs and allow good flow for the eggs and follow the raising process.

thanks for that i am aware of the fact that corries are better off within a group but i just didnt have the space for that and tho i have only two i have not had any problems with them.

You won't have any problems with this marvelous fish, but they really need companions of their own species.
You will be amazed about the change in (social) behaviour when you have at least six or better more of these buggers !!!

If you haven't the space, I'd go for smaller sized Corys then : Same story = 6+

BTW : If they start breeding, you'll soon should need a bigger tank !!!!

I have 4 females 7 male Peppered Corydoras when the females get egg bound a slightly colder water change starts them spawning , I remove the eggs with a small paint brush & put them in a floating container ( 8in x 8in , in 3 inches of water  ) aerate the container really well & remove any dead eggs ( white ones ) a few days after they hatch I put the fry in a small net trap & leave them in there for 3 months before introducing them into the main tank video 1 - https://www.facebook.com/jamies.owens.5?ref=tn_tnmn#!/photo.php?v=593340877344646&set=vb.100000062178160&type=3&theater video 2- https://www.facebook.com/jamies.owens.5#!/photo.php?v=594407313904669&set=vb.100000062178160&type=3&theater hope this helps good luck !! 3rd video https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=593340877344646&set=vb.100000062178160&type=3&theater#!/photo.php?v=678892775456122&set=vb.100000062178160&type=3&theater

I actually had a pair of peppereds spawn on me completely by accident. This was early days in my first tank when I didn't know any better about numbers and such and just did as LFS said. Tank was a 60L community and planted with smooth pebble and stone substrate. Kept at 26 degrees and while I never water tested in those days I'm guessing the pH was the same as it is now, which is 7.1 or 7.2, hard to tell and ammonia and all that was fine otherwise everything would of died lol, never had a single death while I had that tank, which knowing what I do now, was a miracle. Anyway, Oone day started finding eggs on the glass. Got rid of them when I saw them but I guess I didn't get them all. I ended up taking the pair back to the LFS once I had done the research on them and realized that they weren't ideal to stay with me. When I gave the tank away because I was moving for work for an unknown amount of time, I finished catching the fish and began taking substrate out when I saw movement. Three baby peppereds! Somehow they had hatched and survived without me ever noticing.

I bought 3 Peppered Cory's from my LFS & after having them for 2 months there was eggs everywhere. They were just in a community tank & I now have 12 baby Cory's in their own tank. One thing that is surprising me is how quickly they are growing. Even at only 3 weeks old they are like perfect little miniatures!

it would be best too give them plenty of hiding place aswell as very fine gravel or sand. i do advise that you use an undergravel filter as it wont suck the little ones up. once the eggs are layed take the adults out. the eggs take +- 72 houres to hach.
