Move the filter sponges into your old tank and attach them to your filter so that they will rapidly mature then it should be ready in 2-3 weeks for the first small stock of fish then gradually over the following add more until at capacity

if you move over your old filter too, you should be fine to add them, just keep an eye on your water stats

Hi mad4fish :)

Welcome to the forum. :hi:

If you can move the filter material into your new filter, you can move your fish over right away. The beneficial bacteria that lives in it will support the same number of fish no matter where they are. If you plan to add more fish, add them gradually so the beneficial bacteria will have time to catch up as you go along.

Since you are new here, let me ask if you understand the role beneficial bacteria play in a tank. If not, let us know and the members will happily explain the whole cycling process to you. :D

sorry no i dont no nothing about the cycle process thanks for your reply so quickly am h=jus scared incase my fish die if i move them the filter in my new tank is lik 3times the size of the 1 i got in my old tank wil this matter?????????

Ok, instead of transferring media, put your old filter in the new tank and keep it running aswell as the new tanks filter. Immediatlely transfer the fish at the same time. Having a larger tank dilutes the ammonia and nitrite even more than it used to, putting less strain on the current bacterial colony. The bacteria in the old filter will work as well as it did in the old tank for the same amount of fish in the new one. If you run the new filter at the same time, it will gradually build up its own colony so you can take the old filter out in a couple of weeks.
