What is the best way to get ride of brambles and nettles?

They are growing on a bank of a ditch so very hard to get at and dig. It's an eye sore as it coming through the fence

just put weed killer on,but get a one that kills the roots ,as some killers just kill half the weed

you need to get any weedkiller called systemic or one containing glyphosate
also repeat applications may be needed to kill off the root

Personally i just dig them out, they are tough to dig out but IMHO its better than using weedkiller (which can have a very negative impact on wildlife), and the long term preventative results last more or less the same length of time.
