Bolbitis Heteroclita...

Anyone? I've bought it (so that I can try it out), but I'm wondering how other people have found it (in terms of growth, etc...)

I've literally just got some too. Arrived yesterday. I really like the look of it, I imagine it'll sort of provide an open shaded section, like a palm tree or something. Thats just the impression I get from the 4 or 5 rizhomes I have :) Not attached them to anything yet.

I've been growing it for the past year. I enjoy it, though it does get a bit overgrown for me. Today, I'm going to thin it out in my 36g, so I may have some to give away, as it's easy to divide. It really does well under a current, so place it under the filter spray. The literature says it's a slow grower, I find that it grows quite fast for a rhizome plant, faster than java fern. At least for me anyways. I grow mine between 1.4-2.0WPG, but I'm positive it can grow with either more or a little less light. The faster growth rate in my tanks may be due to CO2 injection.

To me it actually looks very tropical. What I mean by that is, the leaf shape and colour just reminds me of proper tropical rainforest type plants :)

Lookin forwards to my re-scape I'm hoping to do this weekend :)

Hi,

I recieved this plant this morning and I did't realise that the leaves would be/grow quite so large... Apart from that, I am very pleased with it...

Yeah, forgot to mention that. The plant can get quite large. IMO, it is best for a tank that is at least 30g or more, though smaller rhizomes work alright in smaller tanks for a time. I also like it especially in taller tanks, since the leaves kind of crowd in shorter tanks. It looks best in my 36g bowfront. I think the unusual shape of the bowfront sets off the plant beautifully. Good luck with your aquascaping. Just did my 20g and 2.5g Yesterday. :good:
