Hi all,

I have been soaking my bogwood for 2 weeks now in tap water  I understand I should not put it in my tank stright away as it will poss kill the bacteria I am trying to grow in my fishless cycle.

Can I ask what do you think is the best thing to do before putting the wood in my tank? ie. let it dry out or soak again but in water conditioner this time?

Thanks for looking

Clint.

I imagine the chlorine will have evapourated from the water (or however it disappears) but to be on the safe side i put water conditioner in the bucket with it for soaking mine...

I also boiled mine which means it barely releases any tannins in the bucket

but bogwood may well lower the pH which isn't good for fishless cycling, as its best to keep the water more toward 8pH rather than less than 7.

Hopefully someone else will answer whether bogwood can absorb the chlorine and whether that would affect the tank after its been cycled

i doubt theres even any chlorine in the water water company's dont use it nowadays
i dont even soak mine anymore i just rinse it under the shower then put it straight in the tank and cycle with it in there

Cool Cool Thanks Gents for your views!

I did boil mine also for about 2Hrs lol, It turned my Mrs stock pot brown I had to buy her some :flowers: to say sorry, I think I am still in the dog house ha ha

Ps. The Bogwood will go in after the cycle is over.

As long as you're going to leave it out for the duration of the fishless cycle, I'd try to find a container big enough for it and keep it submerged in water, which you occasionally change out. This will keep getting tannins out and will help your water stay more clear up until the weekly water change, once the wood is in the tank.
