I inherited a male German Blue Ram with a tank purchase, lovely fishy never had one before. He has his patch in the middle of the tank near the top. Trouble is he seems a bit tetchy with his tank mates. All are community fish, tetras, platies, one gourami and a plec. The Ram can chase and bump the other fish, he seems to pick on one or two of the big ones and pesters them for hours. Would he be better off with a mate. I cant put him in my other tank as I bought a pair of rams for that one as I like the fist one so much. The others are a happy couple and no troble. Both tanks are 36 inch about 180 litre. Is he lonely or just a bitter and twisted old Ram?

I think three rams would be fine in a 180litre tank, depending on decor and other fish stocking.

Rams can be really moody and weird. I once had three, and one of them was just an outcast, and ended up depressed and died. then between the other two, another one got depressed and was cast out. so i was left with one that for some reason wanted to be alone. i think you need to get a good size group of Rams (at least 5 or 6) so they can "choose" their friends. i'm no expert, just my take on it.
