Black Stomatella?

Hi all,

have just come across what looks like a stomatella but is jet black in colour?
it has the 'finger nail' shell on its back, but is as black as night.

any one else come across one like this?

I've seen some very dark stomatella, although none what I would call jet black. Seems others have seen them though: http/i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk280/L...tellaSpawn2.jpg . Some black egg cowries can also look similar when they're very small.

that pic is almost identical, the shell was darker on the one i saw though.
I assume they are all the same species and will interbreed etc.....

There are a bunch of species under the Stomatella genus, so tough to know which one(s) you have. However, it's not unusual for a species of gastropod to exhibit more than one color form, so it's not outside the realm of possibility that the ones in your tank are different colors of the same species.
