Some guy was breaking down his tank so i went over and got some good deals on stuff. I got a couple of these "black rock anemones" he called them. I'm not sure if thats what they are though. I cant find them online. They look like sun polyps but they're solitary and blakc. There's about three on the rock but there spaced far apart. There not like this solid black but more of a translucent blackish bluish. I'll post some pics soon. Anythoughts on what they are?

Ok here's a pic of it. They are definatly anemones. They're already moving around my tank. And also, can i get an ID on that orangey yellow sponge in the background? Thanks!

ps does the coral have a soft or hard base

soft base. They moved off the rock and are running around my tank now. haha

I dont think they're Majanos... They dont have that tenticle shape and they are kinda of squat with hardly a base to them. There about a little less than an inch in diameter.

Beadlet anemones maybe? Nem IDs really aren't my forte, I have seen a few of those that are really dark greenish-blue colors.

if its a beadlet arent they sub-tropical and wrongly sold as propper nems?

They're in the Actinia genus, not sure what you mean by "propper nems"? I've read that they're very hardy and have also seen some examples over time of people keeping them at higher temperatures than they would normally encounter over their wild distribution (UK), although I don't know exactly how much higher temperatures. However, I haven't kept them myself (yet lol), so I'm not too sure of most of the info I've read.

I reconise that one from work, they were on sale as "rock anemones" there also. supposedly easy enough to care for, low light, not too picky on flow and not too aggressive with the sting. This said, the same person said Malus are low light, when they are not...

Yeah, they sort of look like a beadlet anemone except that bluish-blackish color. They have extremly sticky tenticles. The guy who i got them from had a basicly non-photosynthetic coral tank so I'm guessing these are either low light or need to bed fed constantly. I have three of them right now. One hasn't moved too much but i can't find the other two... i guess that explains my nuked pulsing xenia.... Oh well ha ha. They are really interesting anemones and stay open all the time. Light or dark no matter to them. My only question remaining is do these guys need to be constantly fed? Thanks for all your help

Did you read the link I gave you .......... tells you to feed them meaty food, so much like a bubbletip really - will require feeding once a week with a small prawn, silverside etc.

ps don't be suprised that if in a day or so after feeding they hide under their rock and turn themselves inside out - they are just having a poop, so don't worry :good:

Ha ha ok. Sorry i browsed through the link. Will do
