I'm starting up a new tank and trying to stay with a black and white colour theme, Now having Guppy's and small angels, Guppys outnumbering angels. However i'm having trouble finding any small black and/or white tropical fish. Any ideas.

What size tank do you have?
The Angelfish will probably eat the guppies.

35L and yes i've been told. My boyfriend has had guppys with angels in the past, and not had any problems, they were unfortunatly taken by his siamese when he got it and then later got rid of. I've yet to have trouble with the angels attacking the guppys. I'm looking for smaller fish that either stay small or are slow growing till i can eventually get a larger tank.

35litre is much too small for Angelfish, something like 125litres is the absolute minimum. One of my favourite black and white fish is the Dwarf Checkerboard Cichlid.

I've been told that too. But as i've said i'm considering a larger tank. 3 foot probably. And those chicilids would probably look good in the tank.

Agree, angels need at least 17 inchs of height in a tank and a minimum of 30 or so US gallons. We have a member "K" (kporto? I forget the exact ID) who has accomplished a rather nice black and white theme, just recenly adding pinkish BNs as the first color in the tank mostly and you might want to have a look at those pics.

We also always like to ask newcomers to our beginners group whether they've had access to fishless and fish-in cycling information and have knowledge of the nitrogen cycle. We have really good articles on this in our pinned article area.

just get the bigger tank if you can afford it, will make it much easier to find suitable black and white fish, and will be easier to look after and obviously be better in every way ! i just recently got an L168 'flounder' plec, hes black and white, gets to about 5" and was realtively cheap.

Here I am!! Kporteo waterdrop, like scorchio :p
Have a look at my tank pics, on here ive got a black and white themed tank, got bentosi tetras, albino BN plecs, going to be getting black widow tetras, emporer tetras and for a splash of colour some dwarf blue gouramis.
Any questions, gimme a shout.

O good! glad you noticed the thread. Cycling holding up ok? :fun:

Yeah, cycle holding up fine, to be honest, after not having a nitrite spike I always had a sinking feeling that it all could fall down like a house of cards, but my water must have higher levels of Nbacs somehow. Plecs are loving the tank, and the tetras are developing a real pecking order which is very funny to watch.

My hubby noticed this thread and told me to get on, but Ive been manic at work recently and last night was the first chance Ive had.

Yes, that's one of the things I always keep in the back of my mind when trying to be determined to keep a first-time fishless cycler going even in the face of it being very stubborn - that if they can just get there, there's every chance that the biofilter will just be solid and work well from then on!

All the changes of routine due to the holidays can sure add to the hectic nature of work, can't it! And when not at work, the usual struggle to figure out when I can do a water change seems worse than ever (wouldn't it be cool if somebody doing a pet-sitting service offered water-changing services, lol? Ugh, reminds kids to feed the pets over the holidays!)
