Hi everyone! I'm moving to a lovely new flat back in my home town Yeah!! Anyway, its on the second floor and I know some of you keep tanks in their bedrooms and just wondering about the weight. Its a 180ltr tank and I don't want it dropping through the floor onto the old lady who lives downstairs! (not a good way to get to know new neighbours. :hyper: ) Do I have to put anything under it?, or position it differently? Any help much appreciated. Thanks. :)

well a 180 ltr tank isant huge so it should be ok on just the stand but if you wanted to be safe put someting big and flat under the stand, like maby a peice of OSB. granted it wouldent look too pretty but it should be ok without it.

.....and rember dont kill old ladies it's bad luck :X

Thanks for that acetennis2002. Think i'll get my bro to lie on the floor in the corner (he's a big, lad 20 st) If he's still there in a week my tank should be ok.........
Just an after thought....whats OSB?

(The old lady might appreciate a young man falling on her instead of a fish tank!!! :hyper: )

that tank will weigh about the same as 3-4 adult males (average males that is) at around 500 pounds. if 3-4 adult males can stand in the spot you want it, you are safe.

however, if the stand is supported on legs, you have another problem - the weight will be concentrated on these points, creating a greater stress factor. broad feet are best, and as previously suggested, a board under it will help spread that load.

the six feet should be good enough. if you want to be extra conscious, try to go perpindicular to the floor joists.

odd that, im looking at a house right now and im really interested in it cos it has concrete flooring :)

Thanks for all your advise, might look at getting a strong piece of wood the same size as the base and put it on that as well. Cheers :flowers:

is it a juwel tank?
if so the feet can be removed and the flat base wood will be fine to spread the weight.
saves you buying anything you don't need if it is!!
:good:

I've had a 180l Juwel on the second floor (wood) in a period house for several years now. Haven't encountered any problems (yet) :)
