I've had a filter that uses biobag filters for the past few months. They're said to be disposable and needing changing. But how can I change it if I spent months developing a bacterial colony in the media filter? If I changed the "bio bag" wouldn't my tank need to be re-cycled?

Are there little pellets or cylinders inside the mesh bag? I would leave them in place until they start dissolving from old age! If it starts to look like they are breaking down, you could buy new ones and start cycling a new one for several weeks before removing an old one. If you feel like you need to swap media, it's always a good idea to stagger the job so that not everything is going out at once.
