Hey,

I moved all the fish from my 10 gallon into a 20 ish gallon a couple of days ago so now i have a spare 10g!! :D

I had intended to divide it have 3 or 4 bettas in there, but i saw the cutest little puffer at the LFS yesterday and i SO want him now!!!!!
I think it was a Dragon Puffer - Ive looked on some websites and cant find much info about them... :/ Anyone know anything about them? Do they need anything special and could it live in a 10g?

Ive never had puffers before so i thought it might be kinda cool, but if he's not going to be any good i dont really want a GSP or anything so ill just have the bettas! Unless anyone can suggest any others!? :D

If it is a dragon puffer, I'm afraid the 10 gallon won't be suitable for him. They grow up to 8 inches and I'd really recommend a 40 gallon minimum.

If you really want a puffer in that tank you could always go for say, three dwarfs or south americans. Both are freshwater and lovely beginner puffers. :)

i dont really like the dwarfs... :/

Would he not live in there on his own? -_-

how big is the 10g? i know it can't be bigger than 24"x12"x12" cos that's 15g...would you really put a 8" fish in a tank thats only 12" wide?

Mines only 10" I believe a standard ten is 21" long, 10" wide, and around 10" tall :D

15g's are usually 24 by 12 by 15 :), i know jess's 10 is 24 by 12 at least :), I would image in to be 12 tall as well :D, all measurements in inchs of course.

Nevermind...

I shall go to the LFS and sort something out :p

Its only "research" anyway as the tank is empty at the moment! :D Gonna be a while before i can put anything in it! But thanks anyway :)

Yep, sorry, but I really wouldn't put that fish in there. I'm sure he'll look very cute, but he won't be happy.

What don't you like about the dwarfs? They are great little fellas and to be honest are far more active and visible than a dragon. Dragon's like to lurk hidden all the time and will rarely even bother hunting something unless it swims right past their noses. You also wouldn't be able to keep anything smaller than a large bristlenose in with one as they will eat anything smaller while it sleeps.

I dont really know what i dont like about them...lol I saw a couple at the LFS when i saw the Dragon and they just didn't really appeal... Maybe it was the Dragon Puffers red eyes i liked... :D lol

I shall either look into getting a bigger tank, find a smaller puffer i like, or go with plan 1 - the bettas! :D

Thanks for the help though :)

I`ve kept Bettas for a couple of years and i like them they have individual personalities but i`ve heard rave reviews about the dwarf puffers so id try them m8 :)

Ill see what they say at the LFS. As i said i cant get anything for a while so i may as well get something i like! :D

Ive kinda got my heart set on a puffer now though, i love bettas but ive already got 2!lol

I will no doubt post pictures of whatever i do end up getting! :D
