Welcome to the forum Aqua monster.
Most so called betta tanks are too small for any but the smallest of fish. They are even too small for easy care of a betta. I would never be tempted to go with a tank of less than 10 gallons for any fish, even small ones. A 10 gallon is a size that many fish shops carry as a starter tank to draw people into the hobby. They sell at less than a comparably equipped 5 gallon tank in most cases and they have plenty of space in them for a nice small assortment of the smaller fish. bout half of my tanks are in the 10 to 20 gallon range for the simple reason that the species that I breed really don't need any more than that. By staying small, I find it possible to keep more individual species tanks and thus more species of breeding fish.

Another instance of confusion between 'betta' the fish and 'Betta' the brand... in this case, it's the latter- I'd like to see a range of 5ft tanks aimed at B. splendens...

I don't think that many people have them, but I haven't heard anything bad about them. I don't know what equipment they come with, but quite often with large tanks the supplied filtration isn't ideal, and most people replace it. A lot of people have various Juwel tanks, which are good build quality in general but that's definitely a tank you want to replace the filter on.

I'd say it's worth it; I paid around £300 for my 30" tank (plus stand). I think 5 foot tanks can go up to £800+ but don't quote me on that. A custom built 5 foot tank at my LFS was £999

Hi!

For your betta, I would really reccomend anything between 2.5 gallion's to 20 gallions. I understand that money may be an issue- but just to let you know, my first betta, who I had when I was 10, was my happiest betta ever, and he lived in a 2 gallion tank with a heater and a live plant- no filter or anything.
So, hope you know that fish can live well in 2 gallion tanks, just don't push it furthur then that, okay?
Have fun with your betta, AquaMonster. Okay?
I would really recomend getting a live plant- floating one's like water spirte take hardly any care- just trim the dead leafes of, and plop them in your tank, and your done! They also take care of algae, and let in just anough light.
Are you getting a female or a male? both sex's are wonderful.
For food, I would reccomend BettaBites pellets, and some frozen food once a week. You don't have to use a filter, but it's proboly best,
If you are not going to use a filter, then try using a Water Conditiner like Betta Basic, that ballences the ph. and amonia.
Remeember to relax aand ont stres. You will always have friends here at the forum!

Have fun, Aqua Monster, and message me if you need any help. Don't fell afraid to ask, and love your betta!
