I was bought a betta starter kit and a beautiful veil fin red betta (named "Rufus") for christmas and I would like to know if the tank is too small?

When I first got it the betta was a baby and now it seemed to have grown. Now when rufus flares his gills he is really big in proportion to the tank, almost an inch top and bottom. Is having such a small tank good for the fish?

The tank is 0.5 gallon and is branded as a betta kit.

I dont know where you live but you can get tanks for under a fiver that are really much better!

A lot of the kits that are specially designed for bettas are entirely too small and unrealistic. A half gallon is very small for a 'home', you can pick up a nice 2.5 for cheaper than some of those betta kits (check Petsmart for a rectangle 2.5 for 9.99)

Welcome to the board!
