Just wondering if I need to reinforce my anubia so that my coming betta can sleep on the leaves if he wants. Also, does it matter what height the leaves are in the tank? Do they need to be close to the surface?

Your plant should be fine. Your fish weighs less in water and therefore the plant should be able to support it. As far as height in the water, that depends on the fish itself, your fish will probably enjoy it wherever it is, so long as the leaves are broad enough and away from the filter flow.

Most bettas really like to rest on plants near the surface.  Your anubias should be perfectly fine to hold up your betta though so I wouldn't worry about that.  Although they like plants near the surface, they will rest on the leaves wherever they are in the tank so no worries about that either.  He will just be happy you got him a nice live plant to rest on.
