Hi! I have a three gallon tnak with a filter and bio-wheel. I was wondering if it would be OK to get three africna dwarf frogs and one male betta. Please help! thanks!
Does the filter cause a strong current in the water? If it does, then it won't be suitable for the betta because they need calm waters. Also, if you have a betta in there, what do you plan on feeding the frogs b/c betta pellets float and frogs don't feed at the top...?
A betta would be fine w/adf's. But three frogs w/the betta seems a bit much for a three gallon.
Bettas can adapt to water current made by filters (depends on their temperment really), just set it to it's lowest setting. That is if your filter allows to adjust the flow current. If you can't adjust the flow current, then you can place some plants (taller plants, preferably) directly under the filter outflow to help break the current created.
I think you would be OK with three ADFs and a betta in a 3 gallon tank. Two of the little guys would be fine in one gallon of water and the betta doesn't need much either, so they will be quite comfortable.
Just make sure that you know the difference between the African Dwarf Frogs and the larger African Clawed Frogs. They are sometimes mislabeled at the lfs (local fish store).
Here's a thread where you can get information about them and ask questions, too.
