im looking to add plants to my new tank and wondered what the best plants to start with will be and also what would be the best for fry to hide in?
i like java moss and java fern and also the grassy type plants

if it's specifically for hiding fry, then probably the best is some Cobamba floating is really good. Althought this can be palnted as well. You need to be looking at the finer plants for fry to hide in.

I've also been looking into what plants are seen as "beginner" plants, though not for hiding fry. I'll be interested to see what people recommend.

hi liamb

if you looking for plants for a new tank then you need the types that i grow, vallisarnia
eloda, limphonia, java fer, anubias, wisteria, crypts, and a few more i dont know the name off they are all grown in non co2 tank with normal lighting and little feeding, so therefore they will grow anywhere, lots of plants people buy are not true aquatic plants and need special conditions, like high lighting, or feeding particuar nutriments and lots of co2, i paid out over 100 quid on stuff like co 2 and bottles and bottles of stuff, packs of cheap plants, now i know these grow because they have been growing in my tank for over 10 years. :good:

once you have some estabilhed growth you can trim, rip out, replace and add to these with the ones that you really like and just buy the odd plant, then once you have established plants then some others more delicate will grow as well. di

thanks for the help guys. iv been looking at java fern and moss so will be geting some of them and also some of what you have mentioned thank you
