I have 4 plants currently in the tank, all diffrent varietys, im currently using the silver blade medium for them, but my question is when can i start to add fish, I've been cycling the tank now 2 weeks friday ! could u give me a bit of advice as to when it would be suitable to add fish ? i was contimplating putting danios in to start with ?

any advice would be great

Thanks Giz

When you say cycling for 2 weeks what do you mean exactly? The procedure is what i am looking for. The danios are a good choice starting off they are hardy fish and very active. If you are unsure of cycling then have a look Here. This is important stuff if you want to get off on the right foot and with a tank that looks as great as the one you have going it would be a shame if things didnt get off to a good start. HTH :)

I havent put any fish into my tank.... and i've done a fresh cycle,so by cycling the tank, the bacteria can build up in the filter, so then this sorts the nitrate and the ammonia out for when the fish are ready to go in, so hopefully itll be ready for them by friday,im not fussed if i have to wait because i want whats best for my fish. I've also managed to pick up some of those quick testing ph kits and the levels look fine ! I hope im making sense here and not talking crap......

anyway thanks for posting

Hi Gizmo~~

I'm curious what you mean by fresh cycle. I think what tstenback was getting at was what your source of nitrogen is. Does a "fresh" cycle refer to the using decaying plant matter as the nitrogenous source? Or are you using regular store bought ammonia to do a "fishless" cycle?

the plants will introduce a level of bacteria and ammonia break down due to decaying and renewing plant matter (what a plant does when its growing).

When the fish are added it will boost this cycle and go very nicely I would imagine.
