Hi All

Now my tanks is cycled :yahoo: and I have got a new list of fish for my final stocking. I have been messing around with the aqadvisor.com Calculator but would also like some human input. so far the mollies and balloon mollies have been added. Im going out tomorrow to see if i can get the keyhole cichlids and i have been offered 4 bolivian rams locally.

The corydoras and rainbowfish I am gonna wait a while on, and see how I go for the next few weeks. I have attached the image of listings

also aqadvisor has said that I have plenty of aquarium filtration capacity and my aquarium filtration capacity for above selected species is 121%.

what does everyone think, would you say that aqadvisor is correct.

Well I'm not that great at stocking advice. I assume you've had input from Assaye, C101, Wills, Davo or others on the rams/keyholes? For mollies there are various recommendations how much mineral content you should have.

Hi Dan-CR4. A few things about the rainbows you have chosen: Mac's are a smaller species, but they are notoriously hard to find a pure strain. Most of the specimens that show up in shops and in local auctions are in fact a hybrid of sorts. True mac's are going to be fairly expensive and prove very hard to find. Where were you planning to source these fine fish?

Also, rainbows need to be in groups of 6 or more to be happy. I understand that 5 is only 1 away from the mark, but from the research conducted by rainbow enthusiasts, 6 is the minimum. One more dwarf sized rainbow isn't going to up your bio-load that much.

Food is another concern here. Most tropical fish can live and thrive on normal tropical fish food. It was designed to meet their needs nutritionally and was developed for most tropical fish. Rainbows aren't true tropical fish. They need large amounts of vegetable matter in their diet. What I recommend is feeding a staple of high quality spirulina flake supplemented by live and frozen foods a time or 2 a week. With dwarf rainbows, stay far away from bloodworms. Bloodworms have a chitinous head that can get stuck in the digestive tract and will eventually kill the fish.

They like their water no higher than 77 degrees F. If they are kept in warmer water for long periods of time, it can significantly reduce their lifespan. So they are really an in between type of fish, not being cold water and not being tropical.

Just wanted to give you a heads up!

Hi WD, yes wills gave me most of the list, the only change i really made from what he suggested was the mollies instead of platies, thats the mrs wanting to get fish that day, but i must admit they have really settled in well. The corys is an extra as well that i like, but i wont be adding them yet. The rest of the list was talked about a few weeks back with wills, i said what i liked and he suggested stocking levels on the keyholes, and bolivian rams. he did say 10 dwarf neon rainbowfish, but if i went for 10 with the rest of my stocking list it would put me to being overstocked.

Just wanted to give you a heads up!
thanks for the info on them. im starting to read up more info about all diferent types of food for my fish so im sure i will have more questions regarding feeding and the like.

So today, I went and got the Rams and The Keyholes. Want to put me wood in but i think it will be another 24 hours for that to happen, its still sitting in the bath releasing tanins, but not as much.

Men! Put it in a bucket!

is the water the wood is sat in really hot?
i found my wood released loads of tannins when it was in really hot water, but then nowhere near as much when it was in colder temps

I've observed the same thing, temp makes a difference. I guess this is why the refridgerator tea-brewing techniques require that the teabags be in overnight!
