BAD HABIT

Since Ive been keeping fish I have created a bad habit. When I bring fish home from the pet store it seems to me that the fish are preprogrammed to come to the surface to eat. But for some reason when I get them home they lose this program and wait for the food to sink before eating. I have a pretty good current in my tank so what happens flakes end up all over the tank the feeding last about 2 mins and over half the food ends up on the bottom of the tank. I know this translates into overfeeding. Because of this I have a hard time with pellets and aquadine flakes.(they sink faast) Can someone please help me reprogram my cichlids to come to the surface. My surface water speed os fast so the food doesnt sit up there long.

I have the same problem since my filter doesn't have a volume control on it. I feed 4 to 5 times a day but very little.


Anyone else have a better solution?

Guys,

If your filter does not have a setting on it that allows you to turn it down during feeding then simply unplug it!!

This will not hurt the bacteria colonies as long as it's only off for a few minutes....say no longer than 10 or so.

As long as the filter material remains wet, all will be ok.
