The DIY plwood tank im in the process of at the moment is at the point of sealing with a water proof membrane (pics to come soon in an update in DIY folder) the sealer i have found (which is better than other stuff i have used) is white. I was thinking having a white background would really make the tank lighter inside and also like a black background make the colours of plants and fish ect stand out greatly, i do have black paint to paint it with but if you all think white would be fine i might keep it like that.

the only thing i can see being a problem is ever little piece of muk is going to show up

whats your thoughts anyone !!!!

I'n the words of the rolling stones
Paint it black!

I agree with CS, Black and blue are good. I wouldn't go near white every little bit of algae will stick out like a sore thumb.
You would have to consider what colour fish will be in the tank, For example- A fish with an orange colour will look great with a black background but a black molly wouldn't look to good thats if you could see the fish at all. Plants will look good with the black too as someone already mentioned.
A blue background is a bit more neutral and will show good contrast with most fish.

Thank for the replys

It's not a background as such its the timber with the coat of waterproofer its just white

I was going to paint it black anyway but if someone had a real good reason to keep it white i may have tried it for a little while.

But going off the comments it definatly going to be black
