I am new at this plant thing and have a Amazon Sword which has sprouted 2 strings, 1 has 3 very little swords on it, the other has 1 3inch sword on it....my question would be can I snip off the lager sword and plant it and if I can how should I do it...thanx :D

It seems as if the sword likes your tank. :)

You can trim the larger plant by first cutting the runner (stem leading to the plantlet) as close to the base of the main plant as possible with very sharp scissors. Then leave about 1/4" to 1/2" of the stem attached to the plantlet on both sides and plant.

The runner with the three very little plantlets on it can be left to grow and produce more plants or trimmed in a while when the three get large enough to plant.

Thanks for your reply Nospherith, I have cut it as you have mentioned and planted it.
It has no roots tho and I do hope it will grow some roots Thanks again :)

Wow - funny you say that - I just noticed the exact same thing in my tank last night and couldn't figure out what on earth it was

well I'll leave the "string" for a bit longer and see what becomes of it before I snip it.

I'm actually surprised the swords are doing so well in that tank. I've only had them for a few months but they are growing like weeds and the plecs have barely touched them ! whoohoo !

Mine sprouted this week too. Wired. I added the propper amount of CO2 for my tank, so I'm sure that had something to do with it. I have 2 runners, and 4 plantletts on 1... can't see the second runner, green water still a bit over bearing.

Congrats, and let us know how things work out.
