Baby Rotkeil Developing Red Shoulder Earlier

this is a 2" male Rotkeil Severum that i have, when i had them in the past it took to 4-5" for them to show any red, this guy is just under 2" and is showing red already

I have 5 others that are much smaller and dont have any red yet, all from the same batch of fry.

Is this unusual?

His tank mates are Notatus and Rotkeil fry, a 8" Red Spot, 3" Gold, 2 Angels, Festivum, Aureus and some barbs and a bristlenose

Sorry its not unusual for some fry to show more colour than others, when I bred Rotkeils I would have some showing great colouration when small.

What makes you so sure it's male ? Looks very clean round the face to be male.

Its a male 100% just his markings are blurred out from no flash, you can see them very faintly close up, the rest have none yet, they don't develop the facial markings usually until around 3-4", my 3" male Gold is only just starting to get strong facial markings, he had the same as this guy when smaller.
