Hi,

My first batch I am made up as this was their first go at it as well ;)

A little advice required now I have found the babies ;)

From what I can see there is a minimum of 6 fry hiding in the back of the pot where mama must have moved them to once they hatched.

Mum and dad are doing a fantatic job of guarding them at the moment but they are not yet free swimming. Are they going to be alright in the main tank once they are free swimming or should they be moved??

Thanks in advance Karen.

Oh my goodness!!!! Cant believe I could only see 6!!!!

There are loads!!!! They are starting to swim round the pot now and in the next couple days are going to be too much for mum and dad to keep inside the pot.

Should I move them out of the main tank or will they be alright?

Any advice is welcome thanks

Karen.

I guess it depends what other fishes are in the main tank - do you have a photo of the little ones ?

Unfortunately not they are still too small to be able to see them on my rubbish camera :(

In there at the moment are angels, swordtails and a catfish pleco.

And mum and dad krib and these hundreds of fry hahaha

I wouldn't trust the angels with any fry !

Am I guna have to wait until they are swimming around with mum to get them or is there another way?

Oooops its ok I have just been checking on them and she has already took them out should be a nightmare to catch now

Thanks for your advice ;)

I would leave them in the main tank. Yes, some might get eaten, but you'd need a very large tank to raise all the fry properly.

I have a 65ltr there with nothing in it could I not use that as growing out tank for them it is all set up and cycled I was going to lower the PH for keeping apistos but I'm in no rush to be doing that at the min as I have an upgrade coming at the weekend so that's become the priority ;)

What do you think?

Karen.

well im no expert on chiclids but i think that should be good until they get to selling size? than youll need to rehome them, BTW whats the size of your main tank?

That one is only a 60ltr my 400ltr is due at the weekend and the plan was to use that as my community tank and the  smaller one for breeding and growing but she surprised me with this batch so soon into the setup!! they have only been in there since mid July and were not sold to me as a breeding pair infact I selected them my self so was very surprised when 2 weeks after I got them there were eggs!!! seeing as he wouldn't go anywhere near her at first.

Think when the other tank is here I may just transfer the rest of them and let them have that one for a few weeks then mum and dad will be ready for spawning again and will need to be removed from the babies anyway.
