When I was cleaning my 29 gallon out, I found a 3/4" baby cory after my albino cory's layed eggs about 4 months ago. He must have been good at hiding. Since I was going to strip the 29 gallon for a good cleaning, I moved him to my 10 gallon where I was housing his parents and some molly fry. Sadly, my killi-fish bit him before I could net him out of the 29 gallon, but he seemed to be ok. A few hours later I found him floating at the top of the tank dead :-(. The temp was around 66F in the 29, and around 82 in the 10. I didn't know it until he was dead that there was such a differance. Could this have been the blame. He was live and swimming for 5 hours in the 10 gallon. What could have happened(water perimeters are norm)? I just got so attatched to the little guy, and even named him 'Whisker'. I am going to miss him.

while i doubt this was the culprit in this particular incident, you should be aware that fry of many species are very sensitive to improper acclimation. you should always take extra time adjusting them to the water when moving between tanks. but since he made it 5 hours and was 3/4" already, i'm not certain being plunked into strange water is what killed him.

check the 10g for ammonia build-up. if you were just using it as a temporary storage site, i bet it wasn't cycled when you put the fish into it for the day.

The tank is over a year old, and was cycled when I put him in it. I was just putting a few of my fish from the 29 into it for a few minutes. This has never happened before(???). As far as I know, cories are supposedly fairly hardy fish, but maybe I'm wrong. Thanks.

i'd still check for elevated ammonia/nitrIte levels. it could have even been a mini-cycle issue. or perhaps the fry suffered internal injuries when the killi bit him. and while albinos are hardy, fry of all species are more delicate than the adult fish.
