Baby Cichlids

So I was watching my cichlid tank and spotted what is either a baby yellow or a baby metachroma (he is hiding in the caves so I cannot see well enough). I am not sure how many babys there are even I have seen 1 for sure. So unless I can come up with a clever plan I am going to have to disasemble my cichlid tank to cath the babys. my question is if I take away the hiding spots to cath him would a 1/4 inch cichlid be okay in with 4-5 inch cichlids for a few min or is he gonna become snack food realy fast.

leave them if you can see them they should stand a better chance than you catching them

Fair enough have only seen the one so he may be it he has a specific cave the others do not fit in he has claimed if there is any others they have gone the same route as there ar loads of small and large caves the way I have the tank set up.
