We have one swordtail Fry in a community tank, who we are delighted to see.

Unfortunately she couldnt and cannot be seperated as I dont have a second tank set up.

When is she safe from being eaten from the other tank mates? The main danger seems to be a female boseman's rainbowfish
(approx 1.5inchess) who I spotted chasing the fry yesterday. The swordtails seem to know the fry is there and dont regard it as food, by the looks of it.

The community set up is planned to primarily a rainbowfish one. I am planning adding 4 Lake Kitubus today - if this happens will it affect the survival chances of the small swordtail?

Im guessing the Frys age to be in the region of 7-14 days.

Fry grow at different rates, once they grown to an inch or so in size they should be safe from rainbows.

This could take as little as 3-4 weeks if they have plenty of space, food and perfect water qualities.

Well I dont have a seperate tank for fry, so my guppy fry stay in the same tank as everyone else.

So I had fry born last week, head count of 35, now there is a head count of 13.

Possibly eaten by other guppies or my ram.

I have had one survivor though from my NYE batch. There was only 2 born, one died and the other one is really big now and its only been a month.

So if he gets eaten, be prepared, its very possible. As long as it fits in the other fishes mouth, it will probably get eaten.

fry can be placed with adult fish when it is big enough not to fit in the mouth of the biggest fish hope this helps, maybe get a floating breeder net/box if you want to save him/her
