I notice a lot of petshops (and Wal-Mart) have "assorted African cichlids" available. They are usually shades of blues and yellows.

What breeds are the most common in these situations? I'd like to know just in case there's something there I actually want. :shifty:

If you mean what are the names of the fish in the lfs assorted tank, you may have to get some pics for camparison.
Blues and yellows sound like they could be Electric Blue and Yellow Cichlids.

Depends on the LFS. In my area you get, frontosas, yellow labs, red zebras, kenyis, and auratus, and lots of hybrids. Unless you know exactly what you are looking for, I would avoid mixed tanks at all costs. That said, I found a gorgeous male yellow lab in a mixed tank when I first started keeping mbuna, so sometimes you find a nice fish.

In my neck of the woods you get C.Moorii, auratus, crabro, lombardoi, estherae, yellow labs and a high number of hybrids.

I got a great looking cobalt blue out of an assorted tank:)
