So noticing my 2 assassin snails(gonna get more soon as they look so lonely, plus i moved them into the tetra/danio tank) i had noticed that one of my 2 assassin snails seems to be "floating" on the water surface, upside down with his foot on the tip of the water to make it float, i havent seen this happen or even heard of a assassin snail basically gliding on the water. I know this may be normal behavior but for it to just starting out of the blue, is it an indication of something else thats wrong?(my pond snails are still thriving and breeding to where i remove the egg sacks every other day)

I used to see my assassin snails occassionally doing this in my old tank, i never worried about that.

The pond snails do this every now and again as well.

No idea why they do this tbh.

I've not seen my assasins do this I have 6, but my apple snails do this at times and I have read they fill themselves with air to enable them to float somewhere else so in the wild this may be a new area because they are not so happy where they are for whatever reason.
I had my apples in a fry tank which was on the warmer side for them so since moving them to a cooler tank they have stopped, but other factors could come into it such as water quality or lack of food etc.

well its not like their shell is closed, its open and they are still underwater with their"foot" basically "curled" to where its allows them to float upside down with both of their tentacles(eyes) and their little breathing/nose will move around slowly while the water current makes him move slowly

but it does seem like my Pond snail numbers arent shrinking with my assassin snails in the tank as well

You cant expect results over a few days, It will take weeks.

What are your water parameters?

When asking for help you should always include the PH, Ammonia Nitrite Nitrate and water temp readings.

parameters
Ph 7.6
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 1PPm(just did a water change so its dropping from what it was as 5PPm)
Nitrate10PPm
Tempture (based on 2 readings) 78-82* F

And with the pond snails, its not that they are growing as i remove the egg sacks from my filter and ornaments, its just the fact that the numbers seem to still grow even though i limited the food i give to my fish(feeding the fish 1 pinch of Omega One fish flakes, and 2 algae wafers every 2 days), no food seems to be left over besides the wafers as my assassins and my corys eat them slowly

I wonder if that is the reason.

the reason for my assassin to be floating(gliding) under the water surface?

This is a suspect imho too.

Snails, like any other living freshwater species, do not do great when there are imbalances with a uncycled tank (if thats what this is or a spike perhaps).

yea, i was told they like to float with the current, which gets them to their destination faster, so in the end, i was worrying about nothing. As for transfering them over to my 75Gal tank, thats a different story

I've seen mine do this to move around the tank.  They're fascinating to watch when they decide they have somewhere to go.
