Horrible - poor thing. The exact same thing happened to my male Dwarf Gourami about 2 weeks ago (he ended up with a large horrible graze/white patch of flesh on the top of his head). My LFS suggested using Interpet's treatment no. 9 which is for anti-internal bacteria diseases - only used it once and it worked a treat (you'd hardly know now that it'd happened). The rock/cave in question was out like a shot!

Hope your betta's okay.

Kim :(

I typically use Melafix for tattered fins and abrasions. I'm not sure about bettas though...I think there is a version of Melafix for bettas (Bettafix? maybe)

Yeh I would use melafix, its great sutff, and its not a treatment like white spot and fin rot, its more of a tonic, and in my experience works wonders when fish injure themselves.

Melafix is fine, just use it at 1/4 or 1/5 strength for bettas. No need to run off and buy betta fix, which is just diluted melafix.

ok, my gouramis just fit in their coco-tunnel and log tunnel right now. they are nearly at their adult size but stilll may get bigger. this is a very good warning.

with regards to medication, my solutions have already been suggested.

sorry to hear about that i lost a male fighter 2 weeks ago because of the same thing he basically got stuck and then ripped from an ornament and he didnt pull through since then i have a new male fighter but i removed the ornament

I also had a zebra danios die from massive abrasions when i found him trapped between the filter and the aquarium glass (the filter had slid on the glass to an angle and magically pinned it - in the wrong place at the wrong time as the saying goes. I since moved the filter a bit further away from the corner, but then again, it could still happen again.

i once had 2 of my silver dollars get stuck behind my filter they did it quite often but were never hurt but in the end i changed the filter after about 5 times i wasn't risking it anymore.

well I moved it into the middle of the glass pane and dropped it about an inch below the water surface - cos after moving it, the silly beggers kept jumping onto the top of it and getting similarly marooned.

EDIT: Spelling edit and to add, that I have since decided to also get rid of that Fluval 2 and purchase an Eheim Aquaball 2210 due to other problems with this filter.

Before I start, I should point out that this is the Fluval 2, not the 2+

1) clogs extremely easily
2) only uses half of the mechanical and biological filter area (I turn it upside down once a week to maximise thise whilst cleanin it out.
3) impeller gets exceeding dirty and clogged, requiring a complete break down and clean once every 2 weeks maximum.
4) everytime i disconnect power to do maintenence, when I reconnect it doesnt start again without a full strip down.
5) when the leccy cut in the street a while back, although it was only 30 minutes, my filter was down for 12 hours while i was at work du to problem 4 - yes this can happen to any filter, but the fluval seems prone to it.
6) it doesnt have an air intake, which would help.
7) media holders are extremely poor and dificult to clean.
8) it dumps most muck back into the tank when you switch it off
9) foam cylinder is in one piece, allowing only replace all/none - I personally take a sharp blade and cut them in two anyway.
10) very noisy

And thats my top 10 issues with it. Other than that, its not a bad filter.
