Are Gouramis Picky?

Hi, I am probably going to get a male betta on my lunch break today. I have a 2 gallon Eclipse Explorer tank with BioWheel to put him in.

I saw the topic include Gouramis. There is no light on the aquarium, but this tank is for my office and is located under an overhead work light.

Would a dwarf Gourami be appropriate for this sized tank or do they prefer to be in schools? Any thoughts?
