Guys,

I was wondering if you could tell me where I can buy rocks as seen in the attached image? I really like them and want to add them to my tank!

I have also been thinking about putting in white sand. Do you know if sand will be ok? I have Neons and Corry Cats. If so a UK link to any of these items would be fantastic!

Thanks
Rob!

Thats a computer generated image from someone who clearly doesnt know the first thing about fish. Firstly the discuss is pictured to be smaller than guppy! The sizes are totally out of proportion.

I believe those rocks are used in marine tanks, live rock its called. Generally not advised to use in tropical tanks with freshwater fish. Someone can confirm/deny this for me?

White sand can be used yes, not marine sand...but normal sand ;) Your corys will love it.

Thanks for the reply, yeah i did wonder how he was so poor with photoshop!

But yeah with the sand, can i just pick some up from a Garden Centre or such like then clean it, or are there special requirements? I hear they love the sand, they sit on my plant leaves now as don't like the gravel

Thanks
Rob

That rock is called 'ocean rock' I believe; it's not actually live rock like you'd have in a marine tank. It's not really recommended for freshwater tanks; it can dissolve and raise the pH. There's a similar kind of rock called lava rock which doesn't alter pH which might be better.

I think most kinds of play sand (certainly what you can get at Argos or B&Q as you're in the UK) are fine to use after washing.

P.S; That is a terrible piece of photoshopping, fish wise! Those Tiger Barbs have been cut out of a tank with lots of plants, for a start!

Excellent, shall look for some pool filter sand!

With regards to the fake rock, it looks just what I want! Would it be safe to cut it so that it fits inside my wall mounted tank? Might be able to get two out of it even! :)
