Okay, So I Have a spair 60 Litre tank thats going to waste, so I was wondering if I could grow aquarium plants outside? (UK)

Here's what I was thinking for the setup:
Cat Litter, Capped with Dirt, further capped with layer of gravel
Fertilisers (home made flourish formula)
No filtration just a pump to push the water around
Hardy species of plant (Vallis? Cabomba?)

Will this work here in the uk or not? thoughts please :good:

The plants you have mentioned would usually originate from warmer climates as we keep them in heated aquariums. As we are about to enter the winter months I cannot see how these plants would survive outside unless the tank was kept in a shed or garage with lighting and heating.

Maybe there are some British water plants that would usually be okay in a pond that you could use? Are these plants to be placed in an aquarium or to just continue growing outside?

i would eventually place them into the aquarium, what about in a greenhouse?

It can be done. Might be trickier in Lancs....Greenhouse is a good idea
Try them immersed (those that can be) to make things less complicated

Will have a go at this, hope it works out well, start off with the vallis and an echinodorus, thanks for the inputs people :good:

iv got some crypts dwarf hairgrass and HC growing in a unheated tank at the moment (inside) but they seem to be taking fine... also i put some spare hairgrass in my pond... its sending up new shoots every so often... not sure if it would last a winter though
