Hi - I'm new on here - well posting anyway!

Have been planning on starting a tropical aquarium. So far I have managed to keep from buying and just lurked on here reading your contributions, my plan was to buy my kit in June when I am back from a long holiday and I could complete the cycle properly.

Originally I was attracted to the Fluval Edge due to my limited space, but having read some opinions on here I am considering running something larger.

In the local shop I saw a Rena Aqualife 100 Cube which would fit in the space I have available. But I understand that these are discontinued. So my simple question is are they any good? Does anyone already own one?

I am thinking it might be worthwhile buying before June, just not setting up until I return. Or am I kidding myself. Are there other tanks (max width and depth 60cm) that I should consider?

Your advice is welcomed!

Greg

Fluval roma 85(or similar number)? Equivilent juwel tank (rekord or lido)

I liked the edge but it wastes quite a bit of space in the back for what could be more tank.

There are plently of used fish tank websites including ebay if you're looking for something cheaper.

Thanks for the reply, I quite liked the idea of a cube given the limited width that I have. But there don't appear to be many cube options?

No worries!

I've been having another look, and marked out the 60 x 60 space in my kitchen with masking tape. It's a lot bigger when you look at it that way and it protrudes quite far out into the room.

Bloody hard to find a space that isn't by window / radiator / big speakers (especially those!) in my house. So perhaps I should be looking at something like the Roma 90, or the Rekord 600 / 700 or maybe a Lido 120. So many choices!!!

Welcome to the forum PompeyGreg.
With a maximum dimension of 60cm, you are quite limited in your choices. I would expect to be able to get a tank in the 75 to 80 litre range in that space which would give you a decent choice of available fish for stocking. A 60 x 30 cm tank is much more likely to show up in standard size tanks than the square one at 60cm. At arou8nd 20 US gallons capacity, it would give you plenty of options about which fish you keep s long as you stay with the smaller fish available.

Thanks OldMan. I've marked out the space with masking tape to see if I can live with that size in the kitchen :)

So it looks at the moment like either a Roma 90 or something like the Aquastyle 620. Off to the Aquatic Habitat later to have a look at their stock. Just browsing :hyper:

Had a fun day yesterday and got to both the Aquatic Habitat and also Almondsbury garden centre. So I've decided to go for an Aqua One 620 T which will fit nicely in the space and give me plenty of volume as well so I can keep my stocking levels nice.

The only slight query I had was on the integrated filtration. The guy at Almondsbury was unsurprisingly very positive about it, and the tank they had set up looked great. But if anyone is running one of these then I would interested in any feedback!

I have the Aqua One 850, not had it that long but so far have had no problems with it at all. The filters are easy to get to, the spray bar has gotten clogged up with plant material and needed cleaning out (more to do with the type of plant that made a mess when I trimmed it), filters are easy to get hold of. I like the bowfront and cupboard underneath, very useful. You can see it in my sig below.

Hi there. I have a aquaone 620 that runs like a dream, in fact i would always purchase aquaone for bigger tanks to. the filters system is excellent and a dream to cycle. i have mine set up as a breeding tank right now, and i am thinking of getting a much bigger version for my fry.. ( my 620 is up for sale at the moment, as I want to upograde if you are interested at all. with cabinet £150

its a 90L tank

Thanks good to get the positive feedback on the filters!

I'm going to go for the 620T, as I want the extra capacity to give me a bit of leeway on stocking options and also where it is going to be standing in the house the extra height should give it more impact.

Now I just need to have some patience until I have time to do my cycle properly, perhaps I can buy a few things I'll need to keep me happy in the meantime!

no problem. good luck with the cycling. I managed to find ammonia in the houseware dept. of homebase. are you able to advise me what the literage on 620T is? as I may be interested in replacing my 620 with one

I believe it is circa 130 litres, so definitely more for the footprint.
