I'm in the process of splitting a vinegar eel culture but I ain't got an apple.
Has anyone used pears before or do I need to pop out to the grocers?

Not sure about that but I find pear cider is a nice replacement for apple 🤣

Well there are a good number of eels swimming above the filter this morning. I use a coffee cafetiere. It's much easier than using long neck bottles with filter wool stuffed in the neck.
I'll keep an eye on things to see if there's any apparent increase in numbers.

The new culture is doing fine in the cafetiere. Loads of new very small eels. They must be OK with pears as well then.
Anyway, as I've mentioned on another thread somewhere vinegar eels are smaller than baby brine shrimp so are an ideal starter for newly hatched fry.
They are also a damn sight easier to culture as well.
