Hi all! im a bit new to tropical fish, and i dont actually have a "proper" setup, but through luck and a little care i have a very small tank of tiny fish!
i dont know if this site is connected to fishgeeks..but i found them rather rude and almost snobbish so i have come here to see if it is nicer here!
all i have is a tank that is 15 inches long and 10 from back to front, to tell you the truth it is actually not a glass tank....because i have absolutly no space at the moment......its a flippin plastic storage box...totally see through, but totally practical, as we have lots of small ppl here and so the box is impervious to attacks of children! its also un breakable by me, and sio flippin easy to clean and move, for practicality its perfect...
Inside it are 7 fish, 3 neon tetra and 4 harlequin tetra.
The box is sat on top of my aduly royal pythons tank, on the warm end, and through a week of testing the temps...it never went over 80f or under 74....it sits mostly at 78 which i read is the tetras preffered temp , so its great! they are happy, lively and ...they have actually suprised me...i love to watch them, busy little fish...
as far as equipment i have a very small basic sponge filter and i dont have an airpump yet...because i fear even the smallest ones i can find are to powerfull
at the moment i have no gravel in there, they do have decor....which might make you laugh!
they have a peice of amethyst worth 60 £ ! lol and another stone costing 50...an agate stone and some little fake plants and a few decorative stones
i think though i will not move these fish...with others, as they dont live so long...and 2 or so years is perfect because by then i will be able to have a much nicer setup, which brings me to the point of the post!
apple snails? very small aquatic snails? ...see the problem is i feed these the flakes but..il get maybe 10 little flakes maximum and crush them upp a little and give them to them 2 or 3 times aa day but even this minute amount seems to much, so the wasted food is polluting the water faster.....they are fine...as i will get most of it out in the 10 - 15% water i change every 7 days or so....but these snails will apparantly eat this excess food?
i can however assure all the fish are very happy, they have been here a month now, and no death yet...and no signs of distress or illness, which makes me happy! its very hard though also to feed them less...because its such a small amount i give them anyhow, really i should get a pic ...its so minuite! different from the coldwater ones i had like golden orfe, big goldies and things!
are there any absolutly tiny scavanger type fish? or these snails?
thanks for reading me!
