Has anyone had any experience with apple snails in a planted tank, do they eat many plants or do they prefer algae and dead leaves?

Apple snails don't usually eat live plants. They can actually starve in the middle of lush plants if there isn't any food or algae for them.

I had an apple snail in my planted 55 g tank and he would take chunks out of the new leaves comming in on my plants , but only certain ones, i dont think he touched my java fern or another platn (name unknown) but there was one kind he would munch on, made it look rather sad so i moved him to another tank to avoid my plants being a snack!
