I bought some Aponogeton bulbs from Wal-Mart last weeks and dropped them in my tank. After about seven days none of them seem to be doing anything, although three now have white spots on them.

Does anyone know what these white spots could be? Should I remove these bulbs?

Thanks.

wouldn't root tips be at the ends of the bulbs? These white spots are on the sides of the bulbs. The bulbs themselves are really long and thin, not fat and round like the lily bulbs i bought a month ago or so.

I buy these things every now and again when I want to fill a spot in my tank and I don't feel like doing work or shopping.

If you don't see leaves sprouting (the first thing you should see. If you see them sprouting anything, remember that it's not going to be the roots, it'll be the leaves so bury them properly!) within five days than they're going to be bad. Take them out and see if they're really spongy or smell bad. Yes? They weren't any good, you may want to try another batch.

Last time I bought those and the lillies and only one aponogetons sprouted out of both packets (though it has great flowers now :) even if it is only going to live for a few more weeks :()

this time I bought a pack of lillies and a pack of aponogetons, and now I have one lilly and two more aponogetons!
