What sort of size do Apistogramma Cacotouides need to be to start spawning? i ask as my pair (male is 2.25" and female is about 2") are not leaving eachothers side, and seem to be very secretive at the moment, but i cannot see any breeding behaviour as of yet

:good:

I don't know about actual size, but you'll know the female is ready as she'll go bright yellow. 2" sounds large enough for the female, and often males can breed before females so I could easily see them spawning.

However it is definitely easiest just to judge based on the colour of the female. When she's yellow, she's ready.

I'm afraid I can't help you there.

But if they are triple red/super reds I may end up buying youngun's off you if they start breeding.

It's the water quality that is important, not the size. They do better in softer water, many breeders use RO water during that time, might be worth a try, see if it moves things along.

Yep the female is quite yellow, i'm working on lowering the ph right now, going to heat up some rainwater, and mix it with tap water, and increase the rainwater-tapwater ratio so there is no chance of PH shock.

Warm the rainwater by simply adding the right ratio of hot tap water, do make sure though that you use dechlorinator for the amount of tap water you`re using and you`ll be fine ;)

Yeah i've just done this and made a 25% water change, don't know if its just me but they appear to be more active already.
