I brought some river shrimp today, thought I could give the live food option a go. I put 1 shrimp into the community tank, Bruce (cacatouide), perked up, showed some interest and 30 mins ago, decided to gobble a shrimp. Nothing wrong with that? I couldn't figure out if he could digest this shrimp, seemed a little too big.

So now, for the last 15 mins, he has had this shrimp's tail hanging out his mouth. I am worried incase Bruce chokes to death on it

I'm sure he'll be okay. My fish sometimes get too much of a mouthful. they'll just chew it a bit, spit it out a little bit, chew it a bit more.. Keep an eye on him but he should in theory be alright.

okies..................just checked on him, it's all in there, although he can't close his mouth just yet and I can see what's left of the shrimp in there. He hasn't lost any color, seems to be swimming about like normal.

I think I panicked, because it's the first time I've given him live food and didn't expect him to take it down in one go

i bought about 15 red cherry shrimp a while back, never gave my male apisto a thought, and yes they became an expensive snack!

I had the same thing with my old marine tank.. I watched my 3inch bullhead swallow whole a 6inch bristleworm, live.

I was like.. oh..my..god..he's gonna die..or explode..
