I love firemouths and have kept them over the years. I;ve been thinking about them a lot lately (should get a life really)

Anyway I have not seen an adult one for years only small puny colourless ones. does anyone have adults and if so show me your pics :good:

cheers Simon

ad one, called Wally, in his younger adult days, my first cichlid, but he passed away a fair while ago now, he got stuck in a rock crevice, probably thanks to a boisterous HRP..

Some old pics (click for bigger) which were taken early on, sorry I couldn't find any pics of him towards the end :(:

No pics, sorry but i had a group of 10 5" wild adults from Wharfe Aquatics about 5 years back, they were amongst my favourite fish that i have kept
Forever flairing up at each other but never caused any real damage
I really wish i could find some more :sly:

I have a group of 3 currently. Again only juvis, sorry simon. But they are amazing, always loved them growing up as my grandad kept a breeding adult pair. Beautifull fish. Mine are like Daz's, constantly flaring at one another then 5 minutes later they are all sifting through sand together. I'm convinced i've got 3 males currently.

lovely pics ta

I need to get a spare tank to keep some but where to keep it ha

I just have this memory of seeing an adult pair when I was a youth and they were about 6-7 inches and the male was a darker bluey grey than you see in the washed out youngesters in the shop

ive only seen adults once and they were £15 each i think. Quite expensive but i found they grew really slow.

You are in luck simonas. I recently kept a pair of the most BEAUTIFUL firemouths I have ever seen.I now have 50 fry from them, which are all about an inch, and starting to color up. I sold the parents a while ago because of tank space. I have two pictures for you. The male was about 7 inches and the female in between 5 and 6 inches. Sorry about the size, I took the pictures with my iPod.

That is the male.

Here is the female.

The pictures really do not do them justice. I thought I had a video of them somewhere.

Some bigger pics would be nice, better still can you link to bigger pics from those you posted?

lovely Kribensis 12 thanks

its the colours when they are adult that makes them so stunning

what tank size would people suggest for a pair I may see if I can squeeze an old tank in somewhere lol

I would love too, but the problem is, my iPod has a very low megapixel camera. Therefore, making the picture will greatly distort it, making it very "pixely". It's a nasty sight to say the least.

Simonas - They were in a 47 g tank, and seemed to enjoy it. Seeing as how big they were, I would not suggest keeping them in anything smaller than 40 gallons.
