Anyone Ever Used These For A Cheap Sump?

Bear with me if that link doesn't work. I'm brand new here and not sure if it will display until I post it from my phone.

Anyway, it's stackable storage bins with one low side that sticks out. I thought about building "stairs" for them to sit on where they pour in to each other. The lowest one will have a pump (or maybe a really old, used canister filter) to send water back to the aquarium itself.

I figured this might also help maximize water oxygenation for healthy bacteria in the bin that will hold bio media (which will be last in line before water heads back to the tank).

I understand what you are trying to accomplish; however, I am not sure these will suffice.
 
First things first, what size aquarium are building a sump for? From the looks of them, these bins may hold at most 3 gallons of water (all together), which is not very much at all.
 
I use a water butt with the top cut off, cheap, heavy duty, easy to drill.
