i dont know exactly what kind it is but i have it in my tank in a cave formation and its been there for a year with no problems

Hi there

It looks like a sandstone to me.....difficult to tell without me testing it (I studied geology at uni). I think it should be OK in your tank.

Where did you get it from? A shop, or picked up out doors somewhere?

Al

thanks i got it in my garden ive boiled it twice so it should be alright but thanks for the telling me i'll try it and if it kills my fish its on you ;)

thanks

I agree with Alistair. It looks like sandstone. I've used similar in tanks in the past with no trouble at all, although it's not top of the list of ideal stones as it can break down and reveal lumps of other stuff. Generally though the harder it is the better for fishkeeping purposes. So no guarantees but is probably fine.

Oh, and for the record, the general advice is to not boil rocks. Pour boiling water over them by all means, but don't boil them, once in a while they'll explode and that can make a mess of the kitchen, and sometimes the person doing the boiling.

thanks i'll put boiling water over them in future thanks
