I was thinking the other day that when setting up a new tank (and maybe even water changes) that maybe boiling the tap water before adding it to the tank (obviously letting it cool down first) could be better for the tank???

I know there are certain parts here in Australia, and other parts of the world, where you have to boil water before drinking it, as this kills off some germs or something, you could get sick if you drink it before boiling it.

The water where i am is fine, and drinkable straight from the tap, but could boiling it anyway have any advantage??

Just a thought...

well you can but you would have to aerate it afterwards using a air pump because when boiling it it takes the air out but you could see the advantages of taking the germs etc wouldnt see why shouldnt have a go

I've answered the same question recently and basically don't boil it as you risk
increased nitrates
plastisicers and metal leaching

best to let it stand with a dechlorinator treatment and warm with an aquarium heater if there is a great difference in temprature
