Hi there,
My fish are showing signs of internal parasites. Does anyone have any experience with "Anti Parasite Medicated Fish Food"? It is made by "Jungle"
Thanks

Thanks CTS :) Does anyone else have experience with it?
Thanks :dunno:

I have used Jungle labs ''parasite clear before but not the food sorry-Anne

I don't think peas get rid of the parasites, they just help out with constipation which may cause white poo. Parasites also cause white poo as well. I have been treating my tank with the jungle tabs and I saw the fish food at the store but I don't know if it actually works as I have never tried it before.

The thing I was wondering though, if the parasites are in the water as well? Because if the parasites are in the water and the fish eat the food, aren't you just treating the fish and not the water as well? :dunno:

I bought the same stuff... but my fish don't seem interested by it. They don't even try to eat it. Maybe they eat it once it soaks up some water and gets mushy. I bought come Myacin, powder med for int. parasites, and it looks to be working after only 2 days of the treatment

You are worried about the fry in the instructions does it say if it can be used on fry, never heard of medicated food for internal parsites, heard of antibiotics flakes, if you have no luck with them, try and get a med that you add to the tank, water, good luck.

It dosenst say anything about fry in the instructions. It just for smaller fish crush the pellets to desired size. I have been crushing them cause they wont eat it if its a pellet size.

But yes I am worried if I medicate the whole tank with a liquid that it will kill the fry. I guess if this dosent work I dont really have a choice. How long should I give it to see if it works?

Racahel brings up a good point (See below)

canoechiq - Since we live around the same area (Canada) how does Myacin work? Can it be used on fry?

Thanks everyone :X

I was about to buy the medicated parasite food (Jungle), but decided not to.

I was told that if the fish don't eat it immediately, the meds on the food dissolve in the water. :dunno:

The instructions say to treat for 4 weeks.

I bought the Jungle Fizz tabs instead. I've had good results with their other "non-edible" medications.

Jungle Fizz tablets? Are they safe for fry? How do thoese work? Could I use the the food and the tablets together for better results? I really dont want my fish to die.... Im sure that my lfs will sell thoese tabs, I can pick some up tomorrow.
Thanks :-(

This is what is says on the Jungle food:

Aids in control of interbal flagellates, trematodes and cestodes which include hexamita, spironucleus, intestinal worms, tapeworms and nematodes. Than is says stuff about feeding....

Is that what I want to be treating?
Also can I use Maracyn two by Mardel while feeding this food?
Thanks

how does Myacin work? Can it be used on fry?
The Myacin is packaged in little pill capsules. You seperate the two ends and a powder comes out. Here is what the box says:

Dose: Remove Carbon filtration. Open Capsule and introduce powder directly into tank. Use 1 capsule to each 10 NET gallons of aquarium water. Treat every other day for 5 days (3 treatments are suggested). Repeat full treatment in 3 days if necessary.

General Instructions: Myacin is an effective, colorless aid for treatment and preventions of: Molly and Tetra Disease; Fraying fins and body deterioration; popeye; reddened areas or gills; dropsy; furunculosis. Myacin used as directed is all fish safe. Double dose for Marine. Do not use in presence of invertebrates

For best results: Partial water change reccomended before and after treatment. Treatment in quarantine tank is suggested, if several fish are affected use Kanacyn or Neomycin in the community tank. Use Carbon filtration to remove Myacin from tank water.

I couldnt do a quarantine tank, so I just treated the whole tank, and he is showing improvment after 3 doses... I am going to repeat the treatment at least 1 more time.

As for fry... it doesn't say. It says "all fish safe" if used as directed, but I'm not sure if that includes fry. I have 12 barbs/platy 1 year olds in the tank, and they don't seem to show any ill affects from the meds.

Also can I use Maracyn two by Mardel while feeding this food?
The guy at the fist store reccomended using both if I could. My Barb wont go near the food though.

Hope that helps
