I am deeply worried, I was doing WC on other tanks tonight when I heard something hit glass, having looked outstide I couldnt see anything. Anyway just finished and packed everything away and I went to check on Chops & co and I noticed Chops has a scratch along his side, then I saw the end of the thermometer missing  luckily the red dye was intact but the end and most of the metal balls are gone, I gravel vacced the area and beyond but no glass has been sucked up that I can see. I dont know if these things just shatter or the end could have come off in one go. I hope the silly devil hasnt eaten the end

Larger cichlids are good for breaking things, as well as getting the occasional scrape & bash from decorations & such. The balls are steel, a magnet will get them out.

I had to remove the large driftwood from my oscar tank, same reason, scrapes & such. He's broken 2 heaters so far, rips the intake off the hob filters on a regular basis, and once tried to drain his tank by shoving the spraybar out.

Ha, i'm suddenly scared what one of my three oscars could potentially start doing. Lesley, fancy two more oscars ;) Haha. Thats a half serious offer lol.

Well i hope Chops is ok :) I had a thermometer break on me the other day. Luckily it was one i'd taken out of the tank during a meticulous maintenance routine. Upon placing it down it broke on the table

Perhaps its worth changing to a digital LCD thermometer, same price, and they look a bit snazzier as well.

Oh, they are fun personable fish, & I'm used to a bit of mischief having 3 terriers. Thankfully all my tanks are in the basement, concrete floor with a drain, so all that was needed was a mop & some water added.

Well he is ok this morning :good: I will have to get some sort of indisrtuctable thermometer for him. The spray bar from one filter is tucked under the glass brace bar now and the other has lots more suckers on  I am just thankfull Rusty & Tigger are well behaved
