Of course this is all based on the tempermant of the betta fish its self, but in most cases bettas become the agreesor against angels and many other fish.

Like I said there are acceptions to every rule and you may have that calm betta, but that is not the norm. ;)

I heard that the angel would be the prime aggressor, not the betta. :X

I have "read" that bettas would be agressor to an angel. However ,I have "read" the angels can be agressor to smaller fish. I dont what you heard or where you heard it from, but do your own research. Telling me what you heard is not research.

Now back to the origianl post.

If you heard that angels were the agressor to betta, why the hell are you starting post asking if they are compatible?

Chill canarsie!!!

His betta is a plakat. Should be able to avoid fin-nipping, and is a special case for keeping bettas with angels. I have kept them together, and the angel was the aggressor. Mine wasn't a plakat though. So i told him to give it a try, but make sure he keeps a close eye on them.

So don't blame him, blame me :p

Just curious, if you knew that then why would you ask us if they were compatible?
Angel fish are mildly aggressive, and Betta fins are one of the most tempting targets in the world. Not to mention the fact that Betta's always seem to be aggressive with fish with longer fins (like gourami's). They both have their own reasons for attacking each other, so I would say that you should not put the two of them in the same tank.

Getting a little hostile aren't we Canarsie? I just wanted some confirmation in a different forum.

I said there were exceptions to the rule.

Not getting hostile it is you are asking question you already know the answers to. Also, I looked at you signature, you already put the damn fish together anyway. So you are just making unnecessary posts and starting new post.

IMO these are questions to be ask before you thrust the 2 fish together, not after

I have female bettas in with my angel but I don't know about a male. Try it and watch carefully to see what happens. If you tank is big enough they should all get along just fine. Trial and error I guess :)

My only concern with male bettas in a community tank is they don't get the proper feed. I have kept and bred many fish in my 20 years of keeping fish and to be totally honest with you I found that the males are better off in a tank by themselves or with a couple other fish.

In a community tank unless you are willing to feed a wide variety of frozen foods, betta pellets (hope he gets some) they seem to starve.

My males are in one tank that is divided so I have just males in there and I can feed them what bettas need. I also do the odd breeding with them too.

But females are some what easier, they seem to like the flaked foods etc.

Good luck.....bugsy :)

That's okay, I make sure he gets enough food. Since he's always near the top anyway, I feed him his betta food directly, and he always eats it right away. The others get a combination of flake, pellet and frozen food, although the betta sometimes chows down on the flakes and frozen brine shrimp too. He's definitely not starving.
