Angel Fish

Hi There, I had one who was 20cm from top of dorsal fin to the bottom of her feelers. They like to have plenty of room beneath them for the feelers to move around and not get caught up in anything. This was in a 60 ltr Bio-orb. I'm sure there must be bigger out there. :good:

I usually judge a fish's size by just the body and most angels don't get much more than 4 or 5 inches top to bottom that way. I ignore fins because the size of a nice betta or swordtail can more than double just by counting a fin or tail. The fish is no bigger because of it though.

Hi DoctorTropical,

Don't I know you from somewhere?

There are 2 main types of Angels, Koi and Altum.

Generally, fish are measured from the tip of the nose to the tip of the caudal fin (tail fin). Angels are usually measured from top to bottom because they are usually bigger that way.

Koi Angels will usually reach around 6 - 8", Altums are a fair bit bigger at around 10 - 12".

The Angels in the tank in the living room are Koi Angels, nearly fully grown. Why don't you go downstairs and have a look?

Luv ya

Dad

awww do we have some family love going on here?!

although to correct your dad, there's three types :p

P. Scalare, P. Altum and P. Leopoldi

Koi angels are one of the many colour morphs of Scalare.

The vast majority of the angels in the trade are largely Scalare, but there has been a fair bit of inbreeding so you do see the odd altum or leopoldi trait coming through from time to time.

Everyone loves Altum angels but they're quite hard to get hold of and even harder to house because they get so tall.

I quite fancy some proper Leopoldi but I've never seen them for sale so I think it's a bit of a pipe dream, I do quite often inspect angels face shapes in the shops to see if they've got some leopoldi in them though..... now that's sad

Thank you, Miss Wiggle. We do have some family love.

DoctorTropical likes to be on the forums like her dad. I've been training her from an early age.

I am aware of P. Leopoldi, but like you have never seen them traded, so didn't mention them. :p

Cheers

BTT

ha ha thought you would be, but who doesn't like to see their dad shown up ;) :p

just yanking your chain anyway, in a cracking good mood today :D

yes, accepted a job offer on monday, just had a call today asking me to interview for a different (much better) position that I'd given up on. Contracts aren't signed yet so gonna go for the interview and see what happens!

Also builders should be starting work on the house on Monday so back in our own house in a few weeks time hopefully :D

Life seems to be getting somewhere towards back on track now.
