Angel Fish Pair Fighting

My pair of angel fish are looking a bit tatty lately I've just caught them having a fight, it's the male that started it, he's so aggressive. think I'm going to have to seperate them.

They are cichlids and they do fight and then they love and spawn. What size are they? Are you certain you have a male and female? Are they spawning? Do they have times when they hang out together without fighting? Is it just tattered or are they injured? Mine lock lips from time to time and have a pretty aggressive pre-spawning routine. But just a bit tattered. I'm not worried as I said.. they are cichlids.

They are fully grown and have been a pair for a few years, they have spawned a good few times and i even managed to raise some babies, they have always got on well and stayed together but now its like the male hates the female. They just got a bit of fin damage through nipping each other (nothing major), anyway I've separated them and they both look relaxed, good job i got several tanks

The male will get aggressive when he wants to spawn and the female does not want to. Also some pairs don't make it. They can fall out of love . So keep
them apart and you could always try to put them together once they simmer down and heal up.
