i have a 20 gal tank with a raindbow shark and a 3-spot gourami. about a week ago i tried to introduce and angel fish in(my lfs told me the only prob would might be territorial so i took them out and moved stuff around before puting the angelfish in) the next morning i noticed the gourmai really likeed(and i mean really liked) my angel fish's fins so much that they were a little torn so i took the angel out and put him into an old 2.5 gal tank(the angel is only about a quarter size and im about to get a 5 or 10 gal for it till its bigger) and gave him a few doeses of malafix to make sure he doesnt get an infection. i stoped using the malafix 2 days ago. now he has a spot that is white and appears like something was in its skin and burst out and there r 2 other spots that look like fungus.....oh what to do. do i keep treating with malafix or do i get something else.....plz hurry

Can you please post your ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, and temp?  Also, how big are these spots?  When they burst, does anything come out of them?

i dont know the stats.....i just noticed the spots a little before i posted this.....they werent there this morning.....i might be able to get to my lfs tomorrow and get a test

edit: they rnt too big....about the size off a very small baby snail......bigger than ick which im sure its not that

#1- What color angel? Blacks, and to some extent marbles, look horrible when they get scraped. Lighter angels get scraped just the same, it just doesn't show.

#2- Where are you located? I'd hate to reccomend meds that aren't available in your area.

#3- Is there a cycled filter in the 2.5 you are keeping him/her in?

Off the top of my head, daily water changes, maroxy for fungus, & epsom salt to draw out whatever it is that may be going on under the skin. If it's an externat parasite, copper solution is the thing to use.

Post a pic if you can.

let see.....tttnjfttt you are correct(ive never had this prob before im a little lost too)

my angel is a black marble(i dobt its a pure bred though)
i live in colorado springs colorado usa
no filter....i just grapped something to put him in temporarley...not wise i know
i ve been doing water changes every other day (about 15%) and fed lightly to make sure no high levels of amonia(i did put in some gravel and live plants from another tank) and i have an air pump running
the angel is swimming fine and eating good and isnt flicking or scratching against stuff or anything else out of the ordinary....im sorry i wont be able to post a pic for a while(atleast a week) and by then itll hopefully be gone what ever it is

i dont know if anything burst out of it.....i just went in to feed him and noticed it......a few small snails came in with the plants. could they have done it? i dobt it though...........

I honestly can't tell you what the white blisters are, but I can atleast give you a few places to start. Because your tank isn't cycled, I can almost gaurentee there is amonia building up in the water, which is toxic to the fish. To begin to control this, you will need to do daily water changes until he is in a cycled tank. If you can run out to walmart and spend $30, you can get a 10 gal set up including the tank, filter, heater, lights and hood. It will make this alot less stressful on your angel. This will also keep the amonia levels alot lower.

The "fungus" you are seeing is most likely a bacterial infection known as columnaris. With this disease, you will need to treat with antibiotics. Some good ones are Kanacyn, Tetracycline, and maracyn or Maracyn 2 (can't remember, it says on the package). Adding aquarium salt can help make the fish more comfortable. You want to turn the temperature down because this bacteria thrives in warm water. Here is a link wiht more info on this disease. http://www.flippersandfins.net/flexibacter.htm

Sorry I can't tell you what the white spot that burst was.

Could just be from the aggressive fish. Keep up with the melafix & water changes, daily would be best. If it's fuzzy looking after a few more days, Maroxy by Mardel works good for fungus. If it looks like something bursting from beneath the skin, Mardel coppersafe should take care of it, just make sure that there are no inverts in the tank, or other algae eating fish. Copper tends to concentrate in algae, it will poison anything that eats algae.

its the only fish in the tank......the only other things r a few baby snails that came in with the plants from one of my other tanks.........thanks for the tip though

This is a tough toss up. Every time I have seen something white and fuzzy, it has been columnaris and been lethal (but i didn't know to treat it with the meds I recomended). At the same time, Tolka is very knowlegable and is saying to wait and stick with the melafix.

I know melafix is a weak antibiotic, and worthless against columnaris. So how about this advice. I'm assuming you don't have any of the antibiotics you have on hand, and will have to get them tomorrow anyways. So look at the fungus tonight, and if it is worse in the morning, treat with antibiotics. If it seems to be getting better, then try sticking with the melafix.

It will take care of the snails. :byebye:

Get them out if you want to keep them!

ok thanks for the help every one...........ill give a dose of melafix before i go to bed and remove the snails(so i dont have to do it incasse i have to get the Mardel coppersafe)....ill update first thing in the morning.....thanks again

UPdate: last night i removed the snails and did a partial(about 25%) and gave a dose of malafix. one of the spots has dissapeared and the other 1 is smaller....the "blister" has also become smaller
